Hubungan Dukungan Keluarga dengan Tingkat Kemandirian Lansia Melakukan Aktivitas Sehari-Hari di Kelurahan Tegal Sari II

Abstract

Family support plays an important role in helping the elderly do their activity independently because it can increase their self-confidence to do various things without fear and anxiety. If it is not received by the elderly, they will get bad effects and their life quality will decrease, and it will eventually impact their daily activities and can cause stress. Some of them even tend to commit suicide. The objective of the research is to analyze the correlation between family support and the elderly's level of independence in doing daily activities at Kelurahan Tegal Sari II. The research uses the quantitative research method with cross-sectional design. The samples are 84 elderly people, taken by using accidental sampling technique. The research instrument is questionnaire. The result of the research shows that 60 respondents (71.4%) have good family support, 23 respondents (27.4%) have moderate family support, 1 respondent (1.2%) has bad family support, 55 respondents (65.5%) have high level of independence, 23 respondents (27.4%) have low level of independency, and 6 respondents (7.1%) have moderate level of independence. The result of the Spearman rho statistic test shows that p- value=0.021 (p<0.05) which indicates that there is a correlation between family support and the elderly's level of independence in doing daily activities at Kelurahan Tegal Sari II. This research is expected to be able to be the reference for implementing family support in order to increase the elderly's independence in doing their daily activities.
