dc.description.abstractThis study aims to analyze the names of buildings and provide valuable insights into the semantic analysis of building names in Kesawan Square, Medan. The research method employed is qualitative analysis, which seeks to describe the lexical meanings, patterns, and classifications of building names in Kesawan Square. Data collection was carried out through observation and documentation. Based on the data analysis, the results revealed that the lexical meanings varied, with references to both the Cambridge Dictionary and KBBI VI. The dominant building names use Indonesian noun phrases, typically in the form of noun + noun. The most commonly used English noun phrases follow the adjective + noun structure. The study concluded that there are seven classifications of building names: (1) Naming Based on Place, (2) Naming Based on Characteristics, (3) Naming Based on Appellative Mention, (4) Naming Based on Similarity, (5) Naming Based on Mention of Parts (Synecdoche), (6) Terminology, and (7) Naming Based on Materials.en_US
