dc.description.abstract | Hypertension is a condition when blood vessel gets high blood pressure. The elderly undergo degenerative process and decrease in body function so that they undergo health problem in which one of them is PTM (non-transmitted disease), hypertension. Self-management is a patient's attempt to participate actively in nursing plan and to choose different lifestyle such as eating habit, sport, and life condition. The indication of self-management in hypertension patients indicates the effectiveness of decreasing blood pressure, and the elderly who with good status of self-management will give positive effect. The objective of the research is to find out life pattern and self-management of the elderly in preventing the risk of being affected by hypertension at Kota Rantang Village. The research uses quantitative method with descriptive explorative survey approach. The samples are 40 elderly people, taken by using total sampling technique. The result of the research shows that 37 respondents (92%) have good category in self- management in preventing hypertension with five indicators: self-integrity, self- regulation, interaction with health care providers, monitoring blood pressure regularly, and adherence to taking medicines and get medication. In their life pattern, it can be concluded that 28 respondents (70%) have adequate life pattern with three indicators: eating factor, physical activity, and smoking. It is expected that the elderly at Kota Rantang Village are able to maintain and increase the implementation of life pattern and self-management against hypertension. | en_US |
