Pandangan Keluarga dan Masyarakat Kepada Penyandang Disabilitas yang Berstatus sebagai Kepala Keluarga di Kecamatan Beringin, Kabupaten Deli Serdang (Studi Kasus pada Lima Kepala Keluarga Penyandang Disabilitas)

Abstract

The thesis is entitled “Family and community views towards people with disabilities who are heads of families in Beringin sub-district, Deli Serdang district” (Case study of five heads of families with disabilities). This research seeks to explore the views of the views of family members towards the head of the family with a disability, society’s view towards people with disabilities and a person with a disability towards himself. This research uses qualitative research methods that describe phenomena that exist in society. The data collection techniques for this research are participant observation, in-depth interviews, documentation and literature review. Informants in this study were determined using a purposive sampling technique. The were 14 (Fourteen) informants in this study. As for the results of research on informants with disabilities as adults, they see themselves as people who are physically deficient, this condition makes them unable to accept their situation, but as time goes by and family support, they can accept themselves and carry out activities as usual while people with disabilities people with disabilities from birth are more likely to accept their disability because they admit that they have been used to it since childhood. The family's view of people with disabilities also does not look down on them and accepts the shortcomings of their family members without feeling embarrassed and treats them well by providing encouragement and support, while the community's view of people with disabilities in their environment is that they feel sorry for them, but on the other hand they are also amazed at the abilities of people with disabilities. people with disabilities who are able to work to support their families and do not feel inferior to other people. It is hoped that this research will be able to provide benefits for people with disabilities themselves so that they can get equal rights in aspects of life such as work, education and health.
