    Abstract
Background: Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death globally, with myocardial infarction as its major complication. Myocardial infarction occurs due to heart muscle damage triggered by ischemia and oxidative stress caused by isoproterenol. The attarasa plant (Litsea cubeba) is rich in bioactive compounds with antioxidant potential, offering cardioprotective effects against oxidative stress. Objective: This study aimed to determine the effects of ethanol extract of attarasa leaves (EEDA) on blood pressure, total protein levels, and malondialdehyde levels in isoproterenol induced male rats. Methods: Fifteen male Wistar rats were divided into three groups: normal, isoproterenol-induced, and EEDA 200 mg/kgBW. Treatment lasted 15 days, with blood pressure measured on day 0, 16, and 18. On day 18, rats were anesthetized using ketamine-xylazine/tiletamine (2 mL/kgBW), and heart tissues were analyzed for total protein (lowry method) and malondialdehyde levels (thiobarbituric acid reactive substances method). Results: The blood pressure of the whole group was within the normal range, but EEDA did not show any blood pressure lowering effect on isoproterenol-induced rats. In total protein levels, there was a significant difference between the isoproterenol group and the EEDA 200 mg/kgBW group. It was found that the levels of malondialdehyde dropped significantly between the isoproterenol group and the EEDA 200 mg/kgBW group.
