An Analysis of Pedophilia and Its Impact as Potrayed in Vladimir Nabokov’s Novel Lolita and Stephen Chbosky’s Novel The Perks of Being a Wallflower: a Comparative Literature Analysis

Abstract

This thesis is entitled “An Analysis of Pedophilia and its Imapct as Potrayed in Vladimir Nabokov’s Lolita and Stephen Chbosky’s The Perks of Being a Wallflower: A Comparative Literature Analysis”. In this thesis, the writer analyzed about the pedophilia in different countries; Europe and America which portrayed in the two novels Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov and The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky. The purposes of this thesis are to find out the characteristic and cause of pedophilia and its impact portrayed in the two novels and to find out the similarities and differences of pedophilia in the two novels. This thesis used theory of Comparative Literature to see the pedophilia in two different countries in the two novels. The writer used qualitative method that the data is from quotation in the two novels. In this thesis, the writer found the characteristic and cause of pedophilia that portrayed in the novels Lolita are sexual arousal and trauma. And in the The Perks of Being a Wallflower are emotional congruence and low self-esteem.

Skripsi ini berjudul “An Analysis of Pedophilia and its Imapct as Potrayed in Vladimir Nabokov’s Lolita and Stephen Chbosky’s The Perks of Being a Wallflower : A Comparative Literature Analysis”. Didalam skripsi ini, penulis menganalisa tentang pedofilia di dua negara yang berbeda; Eropa dan Amerika yang digambarkan di dalam dua novel Lolita oleh Vladimir Nabokov dan The Perks of Being a Wallflower oleh Stephen Chbosky. Tujuan dari skripsi ini adalah untuk mengetahui jenis pedofilia dan dampak yang digambarkan dalam dua novel dan untuk mengetahui persamaan dan perbedaan pedofilia dalam dua novel tersebut. Skipsi ini menggunakan teori sastra bandingan untuk melihat pedofilia pada dua negara yang berbeda dalam dua novel dari negara yang berbeda pula. Penulis menggunakan metode kualitatif yang menggunakan kutipan dari dua novel tersebut sebagai datanya. Dalam skripsi ini, penulis menemukan jenis pedofilia yang digambarkan dalam novel Lolita adalah gairah seksual dan luka berat, dan di novel The Perks of Being a Wallflower adalah kesesuaian emosi dan tingkat percaya diri yang rendah.
