dc.description.abstract | Background: Premature aging is a condition in which the skin ages ahead of its
time. Prevention and reduction of the effects of premature aging can be done by
utilizing the properties of antioxidants. Gagatan harimau (Ampelocissus thyrsiflora
(Blume) Planch.) is one of the plants that has antioxidant activity. The content of
flavonoids, alkaloids, saponins, tannins and steroids in gagatan harimau has
antioxidant activity that has the potential as an anti-aging active ingredient
formulated in hydrogel dosage form.
Objective: To determine the anti-aging effectiveness of ethanol extract of gagatan
harimau leaves formulated in hydrogel dosage form.
Methods: This study was conducted with experimental method including the stages
of sample collection, preparation of simplisia and ethanol extract of gagatan
harimau leaves (EEDGH), characterization, phytochemical screening, preparation
of hydrogel preparations formula F0 (base), F1 (EEDGH 2%), F2 (EEDGH 4%)
and F3 (EEDGH 6%), evaluation of hydrogel preparations, stability test and cycling
test of hydrogel preparations, irritation test and anti-aging effectiveness test with
skin analyzer device.
Results: Phytochemical screening of simplisia and EEDGH showed the presence
of alkaloids, flavonoids, glycosides, saponins, steroids and tannins. The evaluation
results of hydrogel preparations are homogeneous, pH 5.84-6.10, spreadability 5-7
cm, viscosity 9672.33-12015.33 cPs, stable in storage for 3 months at room
temperature and in the cycling test, does not irritate the skin and shows anti-aging
effectiveness characterized by an increase in the percentage of recovery in moisture
parameters, pore diameter, number of spots and number of wrinkles.
Conclusion: Hydrogel preparation of ethanol extract of gagatan harimau leaf has
anti-aging activity with an increase in the percentage of recovery of the four anti-
aging parameters namely moisture, pore diameter, number of spots and number of
wrinkles. The hydrogel preparation with the best anti-aging effectiveness is F3
(EEDGH 6%) with percentage recovery of moisture (74%), pore diameter (67%),
number of blemishes (63%) and number of wrinkles (64%). | en_US |
