    Abstract
Complete dentures (CD) used for a long time can cause resorption of the alveolar ridge. Therefore, relining with a soft denture liner (SDL) is required. This material has many advantages, but also has disadvantages, such as poor adhesion to heat-cured acrylic resin and increased roughness with use, which can trigger Candida albicans adhesion and the occurrence of denture stomatitis. To prevent this, the addition of antifungal agents to SDL is necessary, one of which is the natural essential oil of oregano (Origanum vulgare). The aim of this study was to determine the effect of adding and the duration of use of oregano essential oil (Origanum vulgare) on silicone autopolymerization soft denture liner on the inhibition zone of Candida albicans over 1, 3, and 7 days. This study was conducted experimentally in a laboratory setting using a post-test only control group design. The inhibition zone values were obtained using the disc diffusion method with 27 samples of silicone autopolymerization SDL divided into three groups: SDL without addition, addition of nystatin, and addition of oregano essential oil. The research data were analyzed using univariate tests to determine the inhibition zone values and one-way ANOVA or Kruskal-Wallis tests to determine the effect of the addition, as well as repeated ANOVA or Friedman tests to determine the effect of the duration of use. The results showed that the average zone of inhibition values in the group without addition at 1, 3, and 7 days of use were 0 mm; in the group with nystatin addition at 1, 3, and 7 days of use, the values were 12.54±0.35 mm, 11.52±0.41 mm, and 10.84±0.18 mm; and in the group with oregano essential oil (Origanum vulgare) addition, the mean values for the inhibition zone at 1, 3, and 7 days of use were 14.52±0.57 mm, 13.68±0.30 mm, and 12.86±0.55 mm, respectively. The study results also showed the effect of adding oregano essential oil (Origanum vulgare) to silicone autopolymerization on the inhibition zone of Candida albicans based on usage times of 1, 3, and 7 days, with each p-value < 0.001. Additionally, there was no effect of the duration of use (1, 3, and 7 days) on the inhibition zone of Candida albicans in the group without addition, but there was a significant effect in the groups with nystatin addition and oregano essential oil (Origanum vulgare) addition, with p-values < 0.001 for each. From the results of this study, it can be concluded that oregano essential oil (Origanum vulgare) added to silicone autopolymerization SDL is more effective in inhibiting Candida albicans defense compared to nystatin addition, even though the inhibition zone decreases over time.
