Basic literacy, which includes reading, writing and numeracy, digital, financial, science, cultural and civic skills, is fundamental to children's academic and social development. However, in many regions, especially in marginalized areas, basic literacy rates remain low. Financial interests that encourage children to participate in earning family income for survival, and a lack of community participation in creating a child-friendly environment make it difficult for children to acquire basic literacy skills. Factors such as limited access to educational facilities, lack of qualified teaching staff and lack of reading materials are major obstacles in improving children's literacy. In facing these challenges, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) play an important role in providing alternative solutions to improve children's basic literacy skills. This research was conducted on one of the NGOs, Sikkola Rakyat, implementing its activities to children in Starban, Polonia Village. This study aims to analyze the role of NGOs in improving children's basic literacy through various programs, such as the provision of books and reading materials, training for children and parents, and the implementation of innovative and community-based learning methods. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collection techniques through observation, interviews, documentation and literature study. The informants in this study consisted of key informants of Sikkola Rakyat leaders and volunteers, main informants of children who participated in activities at Sikkola Rakyat, and additional informants namely parents of children who participated in activities at Sikkola Rakyat and the Head of Neighborhood X, Polonia Village.
