Propylene is a chemical compound that is widely used in the chemical industry and
human life. Propylene is widely used in the manufacture of intermediate materials.
Derivatives of propylene that are widely known are polypropylene, acrylonitrile,
propylene oxide, cumene/phenol, oxo alcohols, acrylic acid, isopropyl alcohol, and
oligomers. The preliminary design of a Propylene manufacturing plant is designed
with a production capacity of 50,000 tons/year using raffinate-2 as raw material.
In this preliminary design of the plant, there are four main processes, namely raw
material preparation, reaction process, product separation process, and by
product processing. The products produced in this preliminary design of the plant
are propylene, n-butane and 2-pentene. The company in this preliminary design is
planned to be in the form of a Limited Liability Company (PT) using a line and staff
organizational structure. The number of workers in this factory is 135 people. The
factory location is planned in Tegalratu, Ciwandan District, Cilegon City, Banten
Province with a factory area of 17,078 m2. The establishment and operation of the
factory requires an investment capital of Rp 83,541,129,124.13 and a production
cost of Rp 909,888,157,532.00. Based on the feasibility analysis, this factory has a
BEP of 30.02%, ROI of 17.38%, POT for 5.78 years, RON of 28.97% and IRR of
21%. From the results of the economic analysis, it can be concluded that the
preliminary design of a Propylene manufacturing plant from Butadiene and
Ethylene using this metathesis reaction is feasible to be established.
