    Abstract
Background: Peptic ulcers are caused by an imbalance between aggressive factors and gastric mucosal defenses. Synthetic treatments have side effects, so herbal alternatives are needed. Gotu kola, sambiloto, and temu giring are known to have gastroprotective potential. Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the gastroprotective effect of capsules contain mixed ethanol extracts of gotu kola herb, sambiloto herb, and temu giring rhizome on stress-induced rabbits. Methods: This experimental study used cold water immersion stress induction method on rabbits divided into control and treatment groups. Evaluation of the gastroprotective effect was done through macroscopic (ulcer index, ulcer area), microscopic and gastric acid secretion (pH, total acidity, gastric fluid volume, and mucus index) observations. Results: The results showed that capsules contain mixed gotu kola, sambiloto, and temu giring extracts significantly provided a gastroprotection effect on the stomach compared to the negative control which could be seen from macroscopic parameters (decreased ulcer score, reduced ulcer area, and high percent of ulcer inhibition), microscopic parameters (histopathology results showed epithelial thickening and decreased inflammation or lesion type) and gastric acid secretion parameters (increased pH of gastric juice and total acidity of gastric juice). Conclusion: Capsules contain mixed extracts of gotu kola, sambiloto, and temu giring are proven to have gastroprotective effects and have the potential to be developed as an alternative herbal therapy for gastric ulcers.
