The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly affected Indonesian society, including
in the realm of art. One form of response to this crisis appears in musical works,
such as the mini album Setara by Dialog Dini Hari, which expresses social anxiety
through poetic lyrics. This study aims to uncover the meanings and social messages
contained in the album’s lyrics by applying stylistic analysis and Georg Lukács’s
theory of socialist realism. This is a qualitative descriptive study using text analysis
focused on the physical and inner structures of poetry, along with five core concepts
of socialist realism: revealing the unseen, viewing reality as a totality, creating
collective consciousness, artistic reflection of reality, and critical-emancipatory
expression. The findings show that the lyrics of Setara voice the suffering, sacrifice,
and hopes of the people during the pandemic, especially those of frontline medical
workers and the lower class. The lyrics utilize stylistic elements not only to build
aesthetic and emotional strength but also to serve as a medium of social reflection
and criticism of inequality and the state's unpreparedness in facing the crisis. Thus,
the lyrics in this mini album demonstrate that music as an art form plays an
important role in capturing, voicing, and critiquing social realities both poetically
and ideologically.
