The Influence of Religiosity on the Emotional Intelligence of the Community on Jl. Sembada, Padang Bulan Selayang II Village, Medan, North Sumatra
Abstract
In living life in an increasingly complex modern era, emotional intelligence plays an important role in social life, especially in managing emotions, building harmonious relationships, and resolving conflicts wisely, making decisions that consider common interests and motivating others to participate in efforts to improve the welfare of the village. One of the factors that is thought to influence emotional intelligence is religiosity, because religious teachings often emphasize the values of empathy, self-control, and tolerance. This study was conducted on Jl. Sembada, Padang Bulan Selayang II Village, because the area has quite active religious activities, with the existence of places of worship that are the center of various social and spiritual activities. In addition, this environment is known as a relatively conducive community, with minimal social conflict, so it is interesting to study whether religiosity plays a role in shaping the emotional balance of its people. Using a quantitative approach with the correlation analysis method, this study involved 84 respondents selected using the simple random sampling technique. Data were obtained through questionnaires, and instrument feasibility tests were carried out by testing the validity, reliability, and normality of the data. To test the hypothesis, a simple linear regression analysis was used with a partial t-test. The results of the analysis show that religiosity has a positive and significant effect on emotional intelligence, with a t-count value (31.061) greater than the t-table (2.0484), indicating that H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted, with a significance value of t <0.05 (0.001 <0.05). The resulting regression equation is Y = 0.349 + 1.001X, which means that improving religiosity contributes positively to emotional intelligence. The results of the determination coefficient test (R Square) show a value of 0.972 or 97.2%, indicating that religiosity can explain 97.2% of emotional intelligence, while the remaining 2.8% is influenced by other factors not examined in this study.
