This study aims to analyze the signs and meanings of cultural elements found in the mbesur-mbesuri ritual performed by the Karo people in Gurubenua Village, Munte Sub-district, Karo Regency. The research employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive method and is based on Ferdinand de Saussure's semiotic theory, which divides signs into two main elements: the signifier and the signified. Data were collected through both primary and secondary sources. Primary data were obtained through interviews and documentation, while secondary data were collected from online journals. The results of the study show that the signs in the mbesur-mbesuri ritual, such as traditional Karo foods, traditional cloths, and ritual processions, carry deep meanings related to hope, protection, and the cultural identity of the Karo people. These signs and meanings function not only as parts of tradition but also as representations of the social and spiritual values within the community.en_US
