dc.description.abstractThis study describes the form and impact of the use of indicative sentences in the reporting of natural disasters in Simangulampe Village, Baktiraja District, Humbang Hasundutan Regency. This study connects critical ecolinguistic theory with the practice of language use in disaster reporting, as well as its impact on public understanding of ecological issues. The approach used is the ekolingustic critics Arran Stibbe. The data sources used in this study were news articles about natural disasters in Simangulampe Village, Baktiraja District, Humbang Hasundutan Regency on December 1, 2023 from online mass media. In data collection, this study used the free listening and speaking (SBLC) method. The data analysis used was the referential sub-section matching method. From this study, it can be concluded that there are eight forms of indicative sentences, namely (1) sentences that convey sentences or facts, (2) sentences that provide explanations or information, (3) sentences that express opinions or beliefs objectively, (4) sentences that make statements that can be accounted for, (5) sentences that convey conditions or situations, (6) sentences that convey plans or decisions, (7) sentences that affirm truth, (8) sentences that provide instructions or directions directly. Furthermore, 38 indicative sentences were found which were divided into 19 constructive discourses, nine destructive discourses, and eight ambivalent discourses.en_US
