Adolescence is an important period in the life span. During adolescence, various changes occur, such as significant physical, cognitive, emotional and social changes. Adolescence is a phase that is closely related to the environment which can have an impact on psychological well-being (PWB). Psychological well-being is a condition in which individuals can accept themselves and their past, manage the environment as needed, make life more meaningful and develop their potential. One of the things that can affect adolescent development is the family environment. Communication in the family is a key element to build good relationships and can improve individual psychological well-being. This study aims to determine whether there are differences in psychological well-being in terms of family communication patterns in adolescents. The population in this study were adolescents in Medan City with an age range of 13-18 years. The sample of this study amounted to 347 subjects. Data collection used revised family communication pattern scale and psychological well-being scale. The data analysis technique used is one way anova. The results showed that there was a significant difference between the groups, F(3, 343) = 33.467, p = <.001, η² = 0.226, which indicates a large effect. Post hoc analysis using Tukey test revealed that there were significant differences between consensual and pluralistic family communication patterns, between consensual and protective, between laissez-faire and protective, between pluralistic and protective.
