Aspects of Growth and Reproductive Biology of Kuniran Fish (Upeneus sulphureus) Landed at Gabion Belawan Fish Landing Site (TPI), North Sumatra Province
Abstract
Kuniran fish (Upeneus sulphureus) is one of the demersal fish which is a bycatch of fishermen in the waters of the Malacca Strait and is landed at the Gabion Belawan Fish Landing Site. The purpose of this study was to determine aspects of growth and reproductive biology of kuniran fish landed at TPI Gabion Belawan. This research was conducted in October-December 2024. The total number of samples during the research was 180 fish with length 112-171 mm and weight 12-70 grams. The growth pattern of kuniran fish is negative allometric with a condition factor value classified as less flat fish, which is 0,38-1,67. Growth with the von Bertalanffy equation of male kuniran fish (L∞ and K) is 164.65 mm and 1.10 mm/year while female kuniran fish (L∞ and K) is
170.65 mm and 0.66 mm/year. The value of Lc < Lm so that it shows the condition of growth overfishing. IKG is dominated by female fish, and fecundity ranges from 5,033-32.003 grains with classified as a partial spawner.
