This study aims to determine the acidity level, buffer capacity, and
functional groups present in compost and biochar derived from cattle manure. The
research was conducted at the Soil Chemistry and Biology Laboratory, Faculty of
Agriculture, Universitas Sumatera Utara, and at BRIN (National Research and
Innovation Agency) in Serpong, South Tangerang, from September 2024 to March
2025. This study used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with a non-factorial
approach, considering the type of biomass material as the treatment factor, with
four replications. The treatment factors included (Bo) pure water, (Bb) cattle
manure biochar, and (Bk) cattle manure compost. The observed parameters were
pH, pH buffer capacity. The results showed that the application of cattle manure
biochar and compost significantly affected the pH buffer capacity. The analysis of
pH and buffer capacity showed that cow manure biochar has a better buffering
capacity compared to cow manure compost.
