Socio-Economic Dynamics of Local Livelihoods in Tampur Paloh Village, East Aceh Regency
Abstract
This study aims to explore the livelihood dynamics of the local community in Tampur
Paloh Village, East Aceh Regency, in the context of socio-economic and environmental
transformations. Located in a mountainous and forested area, the village faces
challenges stemming from globalization, climate change, and limited access to modern
infrastructure. A qualitative research method was employed, utilizing in-depth
interviews and participant observation. The analysis applied an ecological
anthropological approach to examine the interconnection between economic activities
and local cultural practices. The findings reveal that the community primarily depends
on agriculture, plantation, livestock, and wood harvesting activities, some of which are
considered illegal. These activities are not only economic necessities but also deeply
rooted in the community’s cultural heritage. The discussion highlights the community's
resilience and adaptive capacity through economic diversification and preservation of
local traditions amidst external pressures. In conclusion, the livelihood dynamics in
Tampur Paloh reflect the complex interplay between humans, environment, and
culture. Hence, development policies in such areas should adopt sustainable, culturally
sensitive approaches to enhance local welfare while safeguarding environmental and
cultural integrity.
