Production scheduling involves the strategic allocation of resources within a manufacturing enterprise to optimize production activities. Proper scheduling can minimize production time, ensuring that orders are fulfilled on time. CV Mandiri Teknik is a manufacturing company that produces simple machines, one of which is a palm fruit threshing machine. Currently, the company employs a first come, first served (FCFS) scheduling method, which results in prolonged makespan and consequently delays in order fulfillment. The primary objective of this research was to optimize palm fruit threshing machine production scheduling using a genetic algorithm approach to reduce makespan. The genetic algorithm, an evolutionary based method, was applied to identify a near-optimal scheduling sequence that minimizes production time. The optimal scheduling sequence was identified as (4-7-5-1-6-3-2)-(2-3)-(1-2)-(4-7-5-1-6-2-3)-(2-7-1), with a total makespan of 549.07 minutes. The study revealed an efficiency index of 1.21 and a relative error of 20.77%, demonstrating the genetic algorithm's effectiveness in substantially reducing the production makespan.
