This study aims to analyze the contribution of husbands and wives in
running chili and corn intercropping farms to income. Data collection techniques
in this research are primary data and secondary data. The data analysis method
used is farming analysis to see how much income is generated and analysis of
labor outlay to see how much labor is sacrificed between husbands and wives in
each stage of farming activities during one growing season. The results showed
that the gender contribution in Sukajulu Village, Barusjahe Subdistrict, the
husband was more dominant in every stage of farming activities starting from
land cultivation, bed formation, planting, maintenance, spraying, fertilizing and
harvesting. Where the husband is most dominant at the spraying stage while the
wife is most dominant at the harvesting stage. In terms of contribution to income,
the total income of chili and corn intercropping farming reached Rp 43,298,460,
with a contribution of 62% by the husband and 38% by the wife. This shows that
the husband's role in the aspect of work and income contribution is greater than
the wife in chili and corn intercropping farming. This research emphasizes the
importance of understanding the division of gender roles in the agricultural
sector.
