dc.description.abstract | Pulp capping is a minimally invasive therapy that aims to maintain pulp vitality by applying medicament to stimulate reparative dentin formation. Calcium phosphate is utilized as an alternative material that is biocompatible, has a low toxicity level, and can be obtained simply and economically from natural sources such as fish bones. This research was conducted as a preliminary study to evaluate the potential of snakehead and pora-pora fish bones as alternative material candidates in pulp capping applications. The type of research used is quantitative descriptive research with a laboratory characterization approach. The research sample was calcium phosphate extracted from snakehead fish bone and pora-pora fish bone. The extraction results were then characterized using X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) to identify the type of mineral structure and X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) to analyze the composition of the main chemical elements. Results showed that both bone samples had a crystalline structure corresponding to hydroxyapatite, a calcium phosphate compound commonly found in bones and teeth. The chemical composition of snakehead fish bone shows that the CaO content is 65.56% and P₂O₅ is 32.42%, while pora-pora fish bone has a CaO content of 64.12% and P₂O₅ of 34.27%. The conclusion of this study indicates that both materials have potential as alternative materials pulp capping applications. | en_US |
