| dc.description.abstract | Background: Postoperative pain following spinal surgery is a major patient
complaint that can affect quality of life and prolong hospital stays. Pregabalin, as
an adjuvant analgesic, has shown effectiveness in managing neuropathic pain;
however, its optimal dosage remains debatable.
Objective: To compare the effectiveness of pregabalin 50 mg versus 75 mg in
reducing postoperative spinal surgery pain, measured by the Visual Analog Scale
(VAS) and the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS).
Methods: This study employed a double-blind randomized clinical trial design.
Subjects were postoperative spinal surgery patients who met inclusion and
exclusion criteria, randomly assigned into two groups. Group A received
pregabalin 50 mg every 8 hours and fentanyl 0.25 mcg/kg/hour, while Group B
received pregabalin 75 mg every 8 hours with the same fentanyl dose. Pain was
assessed using the VAS and NRS at 0, 6, 12, and 24 hours postoperatively. Data
analysis was performed using T-Independent or Kruskal-Wallis tests depending
on data distribution.
Results: Administration of 75 mg pregabalin showed a significantly greater
reduction in VAS and NRS scores at all measured time points compared to 50 mg
pregabalin. The differences were statistically significant.
Conclusion: Pregabalin 75 mg is more effective than 50 mg in reducing
postoperative pain following spinal surgery, based on both VAS and NRS scores.
These findings support its use as part of multimodal analgesia in spinal
postoperative pain management. | en_US |
