The Implementation of Project-Based Learning in Improving Group Communication Skills of Students at Universitas Sumatera Utara
Abstract
This research is titled "The Implementation of Project-Based Learning in Improving Group Communication Skills of Students at Universitas Sumatera Utara." The purpose of this study is to analyze and understand how Project-Based Learning (PjBL) relates to the improvement of group communication skills among students at Universitas Sumatera Utara. This study is based on relevant theories, including the group communication theory by Marshall Scott Poole in The Handbook of Group Communication Theory and Research.
A quantitative approach was used with a total of 393 student respondents, selected through Proportional Stratified Random Sampling. The research method applied is correlational, aiming to find out whether there is a relationship between the two variables. Data analysis techniques included frequency tables, cross-tabulation, and hypothesis testing using Spearman’s Rho with the help of SPSS version 30. The results show a significant relationship between the implementation of PjBL and the improvement of group communication skills, with a correlation coefficient of 0.235 and a significance value of less than 0.001. Although the correlation is considered low based on Guilford’s interpretation, the relationship is still statistically proven. This means the use of PjBL has a positive impact on helping students develop better communication skills in group settings.
