Sign language is the main form of communication for the deaf in conveying and receiving information. In Indonesia, there are two sign language systems used, namely the Indonesian Sign Language System (SIBI) and Indonesian Sign Language (BISINDO). The use of SIBI and BISINDO sign languages is used for the learning process in schools. This study aims to describe the use of SIBI and BISINDO in teaching and learning interactions and students' experiences of using sign language. The method used is qualitative with a phenomenological approach, and data collection techniques through interviews, observations, and documentation. The results of the study show that SIBI is used in formal and official contexts by teachers and students because it is a government policy. Deaf students tend to write sentences according to the sign patterns they have learned, even though they are not in accordance with the correct Indonesian language rules. The use of BISINDO sign language is more dominantly used by deaf students because it is more natural and expressive. There is a phenomenon of mixing between SIBI and BISINDO in everyday practice, both in the classroom and outside of formal learning.en_US
