The Influence of Emotional Intelligence on Job Stress in Bargainers of Bina Kasih General Hospital Medan
Abstract
Nurses providing services in hospitals have constant contact with patients and the
nurse's work environment. Continuous and systematic health services and many
roles and demands often lead to conditions that can trigger occupational stress in
nurses. Job stress is related to nurses' emotions. Nurses in carrying out their
duties need the ability to manage emotions, this ability is known as emotional
intelligence. The main objective of the study was to analyze the effect of emotional
intelligence based on the dimensions of self-awareness, managing emotions, self
motivation, empathy, and social skills on nurses' work stress at Bina Kasih
Hospital Medan. This type of research is a survey with a questionnaire method.
The population in this study was the number of nurses at Bina Kasih Medan
Hospital, namely 88 nurses. Data analysis was carried out by simple linear
regression analysis and t test. The results of the study using simple linear
regression analysis and t test showed that the Emotional Intelligence variable had
a significant effect on nurse performance with a value of ρ = .000 and a
correlation coefficient (r) of .210, so this study found a negative influence between
Emotional Intelligence and Job Stress on nurses at Bina Kasih Medan Hospital.
