    Abstract
Background: Gliomas are the most common primary brain tumors, classified into low-grade and high-grade types based on histopathological features. CD117, a transmembrane tyrosine kinase receptor, has been identified in various tumors, including gliomas, with higher expression reported in high-grade variants. To evaluate the expression of CD117 in glioma and its association with tumor grade among patients treated at H. Adam Malik General Hospital, Medan. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on glioma patients who underwent tumor resection between 2015 and 2020. CD117 expression was assessed through immunohistochemical staining and categorized into four intensity levels. Statistical analysis was performed using the chi-square test. Results: Among 30 patients, 56.7% had high-grade gliomas. CD117 expression was most frequently observed at level +3 (43.3%). Although CD117 expression appeared higher in high-grade tumors, the association with tumor grade was not statistically significant (p = 0.40). Conclusion: While CD117 expression was more frequent in high-grade gliomas, no significant correlation was found. Further studies are needed to determine the prognostic and therapeutic potential of CD117 in glioma.
