Chopper Machine Maintenance Planning Proposal Using Failure Mode Effect Criticality Analysis (FMECA) Method and Reliability Centered Maintenance at PT. XYZ
Abstract
PT. XYZ is a manufacturing company that produces tapioca flour. The problem occurring at PT. XYZ is caused by the implementation of an unscheduled maintenance system. This condition results in disruptions to the production process if damage occurs and causes losses due to production stoppages. This research aims to identify the distribution of damage patterns on critical components of the chopper machine, so that the appropriate damage and repair intervals can be determined. Thus, the company can develop a preventive maintenance schedule and determine the estimated cost of machine repairs. Therefore, improvements in machine maintenance planning and cost calculation are necessary using the Failure Mode Effect and Criticality Analysis and Reliability Centered Maintenance methods. The results of this study indicate that the critical components causing the chopper machine to malfunction are the cutting blades and bearings, with a total of five malfunctions occurring between February 2024 and February 2025. The proposed preventive maintenance includes a schedule for the restoration task of dull cutting blades with a maintenance interval of every 57 days and a schedule for the discard task of cutting blades with a replacement interval of every 70 days. Next, a schedule for the restoration task of worn bearings with a maintenance interval of every 52 days and a schedule for the discard task of bearings with a replacement interval of every 83 days. Based on the cost calculation results, the cost of machine maintenance failure is Rp 3.700.103.438, while the cost of preventive machine maintenance is Rp 2.591.555.415. This shows that the company can save Rp 1.108.548.023 by performing preventive machine maintenance.
