dc.description.abstract | This research, titled "Intercultural Communication Messages in DEL FM Radio Broadcasts and Efforts to Strengthen Batak Cultural Identity in Toba Regency" aims to examine how intercultural communication practices carried out by DEL FM Radio can strengthen Batak cultural identity within the Toba community. In the era of globalization, which challenges the preservation of local cultures, radio serves as a vital communication bridge that connects people to their cultural values. This research employs a qualitative approach using a case study method. The primary theories used are Intercultural Communication Theory (Edward T. Hall and Liliweri) and Cultural Identity Theory (Mary Jane Collier). Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation. The informants include one announcer and one producer from DEL FM as the main informants, one traditional leader as a triangulator, and one active listener as an additional informant. The findings reveal that DEL FM actively incorporates Batak cultural elements into its broadcasts, such as the use of local language, traditional music, cultural proverbs, and discussions of values like Dalihan Na Tolu in flagship programs such as In DEL Morning and Danau Toba Show. The announcers act as cultural mediators who deliver messages in an engaging and communicative manner. This creates an emotional closeness between listeners and their cultural identity, fostering pride and collective awareness of the importance of preserving Batak culture. Thus, intercultural communication within DEL FM’s broadcasts significantly contributes to strengthening Batak cultural identity in Toba Regency. | en_US |
