Background: Meningioma is the most common primary CNS tumor, with
biological behavior linked to histopathological grade. Molecular markers such as
vimentin and progesterone receptor (PR) may help assess tumor aggressiveness.
Methods: This cross-sectional study included 30 meningioma patients who
underwent surgery at Haji Adam Malik Hospital, Medan. Vimentin and PR
expression were evaluated using immunohistochemistry and scored from +1 to
+3. Spearman‟s test was used to analyze correlations with WHO grade.
Results: Vimentin expression increased with tumor grade (r = +0.75, p < 0.001),
while PR expression decreased (r = –0.68, p < 0.001). A combined profile of high
vimentin and low PR predicted grade II–III tumors with 68.9% sensitivity and
65.4% specificity.
Conclusion: Vimentin and PR expression are significantly correlated with WHO
grading in meningioma. Their combined evaluation may assist in predicting tumor
aggressiveness.
