Layang scad (Decapterus macrosoma) landed at TPI Pantai Labu, Deli
Serdang, is a primary catch of significant economic value caught in the Malacca
Strait waters. The objective of this study was to determine the growth and
reproductive biology of layang scad landed at TPI Pantai Labu, Deli Serdang.
The research was conducted from October 2024 to December 2024. A total of
140 samples were obtained during the study, consisting of 86 male and 54 female
fish, with a length range of 100 mm - 221 mm and a weight range of 10 gr -101
gr. The results showed that the growth pattern of layang scad (D. macrosoma)
is negative allometric (length growth is faster than weight growth) with the
equation W = 0,00001L2,9768 The obtained condition factor of 1,053 indicates
that the fish are less flattened. The Von Bertalanffy growth parameters for
layang scad were Lt = 205,25 (1 – EXP (1.20(t+1.51)), with an asymptotic length
(L∞) = 205,25 mm, a growth coefficient (K) = 1.51 per year, and a theoretical
age (t0) = 1,20. The first capture size was 186,41 mm for female fish and 171,38
mm for male fish. The first maturity size was 170.44 mm for female fish and
162,77 mm for male fish. The sex ratio between males and females was 1:0,62.
The layang scad found had Gonad Maturity Stages (TKG) I to TKG IV with a
Gonadosomatic Index (GSI) ranging from 0,54% to 1,73%. The fecundity
ranged from 7,137 to 163,277 eggs, and the egg diameter ranged from 0,15 mm
to 0,52 mm, indicating a partial spawner spawning pattern.
