Mangrove Beach is one of the beaches with great natural potential and is
located in Serdang Bedagai Regency, North Sumatra. The waters of Mangrove Beach
are widely used for various community activities that have the potential to increase
water pollution by heavy metals. This study aims to analyze the content of heavy metals
cadmium (Cd) and lead (Pb) in blood cockles Anadara antiquata, sediment and water
in the waters of Mangrove Beach. Samples were taken from three stations using the
purposive sampling method. Analysis of heavy metals cadmium and lead was carried
out using Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS). The results of the study showed that
the content of Cd (0,0010 – 0,0015 mg/kg) and Pb (0,0017 – 0,0023 mg/kg) in blood
cockles was still below the maximum limits set by BPOM. The content of Cd (0,03 –
0,06 mg/kg) and Pb (0,5 - 1 mg/kg) in sediment was also still below the quality
standards of ANZECC and ARMCANZ. The content of Cd (0,000003 – 0,000009
mg/kg) and Pb (0,000007 – 0,000014 mg/kg) in water was still far from the quality
standard limits based on Government Regulation 22 of 2021. This study indicates that
the waters of Mangrove Beach are relatively safe from heavy metal pollution of
cadmium and lead, but continued research is still needed
