Abstract
A problem that is currently occurring in developed and developing countries
regarding dental and oral health is dental caries. One of the countries where dental
caries is often found is our own country, namely Indonesia.1 Behavioral factors that
ignore the cleanliness and health of the teeth and mouth are one of the factors causing
problems with the teeth and mouth. This is due to a lack of knowledge about the health
and maintenance of teeth and mouth. The World Health Organization (WHO) has
recommended the use of traditional medicines, such as plants and herbal plants to
maintain public health. One of these medicinal plants is nutmeg. This study used 7
treatment groups, namely; group 1: Nutmeg leaf extract 50%, Group 2: Nutmeg leaf
extract (25%, group 3: Nutmeg leaf extract 12.5%, group 4: Nutmeg leaf extract 6.25%,
group 5: Nutmeg leaf extract 3.125%, group 6: Dimethyl sulfoxide (Negative Control),
group 7: Chlorhexidine gluconate 0.2% (Positive Control). Kirby-Baeur, where sterile
paper discs were soaked in nutmeg leaf extract and left for 24 hours and the inhibition
zone was calculated, then the most effective results were obtained in group 1 with 50%
nutmeg leaf extract with an inhibition zone of 16,525 mm.
