dc.description.abstract | Palliative patients face limitations due to their illness need a caregiver to help
with the activities or needs of palliative patients in daily life daily life to the needs
of the treatment or healing process of the disease. Caregiver of palliative patient
experience burnout in the low to high categories when dealing with palliative
patients who have diverse traits and behaviors. Some cases of burnout found in
Medan city on several caregivers of palliative patients, one of which is a study
conducted at Hospital Santa Elisabeth Medan, it found that 34% of nurses who
were in the inpatient room experienced burnout syndrome with a high category.
Therefore, this study has (1) To identify how burnout is experienced by caregivers
of palliative patients; (2) To know and analyze the coping mechanisms
mechanisms used by caregivers in overcoming burnout when facing palliative
patients. This study found that each palliative patient caregiver informant
experienced burnout characterized by mental and physical fatigue, cynicism, and
cynicism, physical exhaustion, having an attitude of cynicism towards oneself and
others, and ineffectiveness in managing time, ineffectiveness in managing time,
emotions, and interpersonal relationships. Coping mechanisms owned by
caregivers in this study are dominant to emotion-focused coping and one of them
has two coping mechanisms, namely emotion-focused coping and problem-
focused coping. The role of social workers is very important in the process of
caring for palliative patients.This study provides recommendations to caregivers
of palliative patients, Independent Social Workers of Indonesia (IPSPI) DPD of
North Sumatera, and provide recommendations to hospitals in Medan City
regarding the importance of training to caregivers of palliative patient related to
burnout and how to manage positive coping mechanisms, then recommendations
to the Independent Social Workers of Indonesia (IPSPI) DPD North Sumatera
and hospitals in Medan City. | en_US |
