dc.description.abstractIn this study, the main focus is on the preparation and characterization of BaFe12O19 with the addition of Y2O3. The variation of Y2O3 composition used is 0%, 3% and 5%. This research was conducted to show how effective the material can absorb microwaves. The initial stage of the research begins with making BaFe12O19 with the basic ingredients of natural iron sand and barium chloride (BaCl2) as a precursor during the synthesis process and calcined at 1000°C for 2 hours. The obtained BaFe12O19 was then mixed with Y2O3 through manual grinding using a mortar for 1 hour. The Y2O3 used was commercial Y2O3. Then to find out the characteristics of the sample, several characterizations were carried out, namely crystal structure testing with X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), morphology testing with Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FE-SEM), and microwave absorption testing with Vector Analyzer Network (VNA). XRD results show that with the addition of Y2O3, there are several phases including BaFe12O19, and Y2O3. Then there is an increase in crystal diameter from 51.981 nm to 59.44 nm. Morphological observations using FE-SEM show that the particle size distribution is almost homogeneous with the joining of hexagonal-shaped particles with random particles. Then the VNA results show that the optimal reflection loss is achieved in the sample with the addition of 3% Y2O3, which is -10.91 dB at a frequency of 11.32 GHz, which is equivalent to a 91.93% absorption percentage at a thickness of 1.5 mm.en_US
