Fiberboard is widely produced and used as a building material and
furniture in various countries. The fiberboard market offers a wide range of high quality fiberboard options in terms of strength, lightweight, and environmental
friendliness. This research aims to analyze the characteristics and applications of
lignin-based super-hydrophobic coatings on the quality of fiberboard. Lignin is
used as a natural additive with the potential to enhance water resistance, while
polyurethane serves as the matrix forming the coating. This research conducted
physical and mechanical property tests on fiberboard, including density, moisture
content, water absorption, thickness swelling, MOE, MOR, and compressive
strength, as well as FTIR, XRD, and Py-GC MS analyses. The results showed
improvements in mechanical properties and density. Additionally, the
characteristics of the coating exhibited hydrophobic properties and structural
regularity.
