    Abstract
    Background: Lung neoplasms are the leading cause of cancer incidence and death worldwide. Lung cancer is divided based on the cell of origin into small cell lung cancer (SCLC) and non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Based on the dominance of advanced stage diagnosis, it is assumed that chemotherapy will be the mainstay of treatment for non-small cell lung cancer. Active Hexose-Correlated Compound (AHCC) is a mushroom extract derived from several species of Basidiomycetes mushrooms including Shiitake (Lentinus edodes) and Shimeji (Lyophyllum shimeji). This natural product consists of a mixture of amino acids, minerals, polysaccharides, and lipids enriched in α-1,4-linked glucans. Active Hexose Correlated Compound (AHCC) has been shown to have many immunostimulatory and anti-cancer activities in mice and humans Objective: To determine the difference in CD8 levels in patients with HNC who underwent chemotherapy after AHCC administration. Method: This study was an analytical study with a prospective double-blind approach in which three blood draws were performed after the 1st and 4th chemotherapy cycles after AHCC administration in the case group and placebo in the control group with 25 samples each. Results: The results showed that AHCC administration significantly increased CD8+ T cell levels compared to the control group (p<0.05). Conclusion: The administration of AHCC as adjuvant therapy can enhance the body's immune response in patients with lung, breast, and cervical cancer undergoing chemotherapy, which can contribute to the successful treatment of lung cancer.
