Warehouse Storage Layout Improvement Design Using The FSN (Fast, Slow, Non-Moving) Analysis Method at PT XYZ
Abstract
The effectiveness and efficiency of warehouse operations are significantly influenced by the layout of goods storage. The Ericsson warehouse at PT. DSV Solutions Indonesia implements a randomized storage system, in which items are placed in any available location without considering their movement frequency. This leads to a mismatch between storage locations and the frequency of item movement within the warehouse. Another issue arises during the retrieval process, particularly in central storage areas, where surrounding items must be relocated before the target item can be accessed. These conditions result in increased travel distances for material handling equipment, with a total travel distance of 100.574,05 meters and a Line Efficiency Rate (LER) of 19,98%, which is considered inefficient. This study aims to design an improved storage layout using FSN (Fast, Slow, Non-moving) Analysis based on average stay, consumption rate, and turnover ratio. The results show that layouts based on average stay and consumption rate can reduce travel distance by 40.100,40 meters, while the layout based on turnover ratio results in a reduction of 27.214 meters.
