    Abstract
This research discusses the changes in the meaning of Arabic loan words in Sundanese in the novel Sempalan Tina Tareh by Ki Umbara. The purpose of this study is to identify words that experience changes in meaning and analyze what types of changes in meaning in words. The theory used is the theory of changes in meaning put forward by Chaer. Chaer said that changes in meaning consist of 5 (five) types, namely expansion of meaning, narrowing of meaning, total change, refinement, and coarsening. This study is a qualitative study using a descriptive method which means describing the facts and characteristics of a population or a particular field systematically and accurately. The data source in this study is the novel Sempalan Tina Tareh by Ki Umbara and the research data are loan words contained in the novel Sempalan Tina Tareh which are adjusted to the Arabic dictionary guidelines by Munawwir. The results of the study showed that there were 50 (fifty) Sundanese words that were borrowed from Arabic and experienced changes in meaning, including 16 words that experienced expansion of meaning, 17 words that experienced narrowing of meaning, 11 words that experienced total changes, 2 words that experienced refinement of meaning, and 4 words that experienced coarsening of meaning. The conclusion of this study is that the most dominant change in meaning among the five elements is narrowing of meaning. This is because the Sundanese words that were borrowed from Arabic experienced narrowing of meaning as many as 17 words.
