Hypertension is a non-communicable disease that can reduce quality of life, pose serious health risks, and even cause death among the elderly. Self-care management education is an appropriate intervention to improve the behavior of individuals with hypertension. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of self-care management on the behavior of elderly patients with hypertension at UPT Puskesmas Medan Johor. The research employed a quasi-experimental design using a pretest-posttest non-equivalent control group approach, with a total sample of 64 participants, consisting of 32 in the intervention group and 32 in the control group. The results of the Wilcoxon signed-rank test for the pre-post intervention group showed significant improvements in knowledge (p=0.000) and practice (p=0.000), while the paired t-test for attitude also showed a significant result (p=0.000), indicating the effectiveness of self-care management on the behavior of hypertensive patients. Furthermore, the Mann-Whitney test comparing the intervention and control groups revealed significant differences in knowledge (p=0.001) and practice (p=0.012), while the independent t-test for attitude showed a significant difference (p=0.009). These results indicate that self-care management has a significant effect on the behavior of elderly patients with hypertension at UPT Puskesmas Medan Johor. Self-care management can be effectively used to improve the behavior of elderly individuals suffering from hypertension.
