    Abstract
Drug addiction is a chronic disease that involves behavior, and one of the behavioral stages of addiction that needs attention is relapse. Individuals who formerly struggled with drug addiction in Namu Ukur Utara Village reported experiencing relapse during their recovery process, and also noted a decline in their overall quality of life while actively using substances. According to data from the National Institute on Drug Abuse in 2023, the relapse rate for former drug addicts is between 40-60 percent. Long-term drug use can have a negative impact on quality of life. To improve quality of life, former drug addicts must have resilience within themselves. The purpose of this study is to analyze the behavior of former drug addicts in improving quality of life in Namu Ukur Utara Village, Langkat Regency. This research was conducted using a qualitative approach with a case study technique in Namu Ukur Utara Village. Four informants participated in this study. The results showed that informants started using drugs in their teenage years due to curiosity and peer pressure. The frequency and dosage of drug use increased to achieve the same effects as when they first started using, such as feeling calm and increased work stamina. Barriers to behavioral change included low self-resilience, peer pressure, and family discrimination. Supporters of behavioral change included self-awareness, self-motivation, family support, and rehabilitation. Informants experienced relapse during the recovery process due to emotional pressure. After having resilience, informants could easily recover and improve their quality of life. To optimize the rehabilitation and reintegration of former substance abusers, it is essential for local authorities to foster robust intersectoral partnerships, thereby facilitating comprehensive support systems that enhance their overall quality of life.
