One way to overcome the appearance deficiencies of plywood is to use lignin-based super-hydrophobic coatings. These coatings act as a physical barrier and assist chemically in creating super-hydrophobic properties. This makes plywood more resistant to moisture and has the potential to be an environmentally friendly coating. This study aims to analyze the characteristics and application of lignin-based super-hydrophobic coatings on plywood quality. The treatments given were without coatings, polyurethane (PU) coatings and polyurethane (PU) + lignin coatings. Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR), X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) and Pyrolysis Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (Py-GCMS) analysis were conducted. Results show a density of about 0,43 g/cm³ - 0,48 g/cm³, moisture content around 9,04% - 10,47%, water absorption around 42,53% - 63,09%, thick swelling around 3,64% - 9,01%, MOE around 2583,76 MPa – 3570,64 MPa, MOR around 29,42 MPa – 101,30 MPa and compression around 0,01 MPa – 0,04 MPa. The use of super-hydrophobic coatings from lignin has shown positive results in improving the quality of plywood, especially when combined with polyurethane (PU) coatings to improve water resistance
