Redesign of Facility Layout Using Systematic Layout Planning Method and CORELAP Algorithm
Abstract
UD. Frans Mora Jaya Perabot is experiencing inefficiencies in its production facility layout, resulting in suboptimal material flow, backtracking, cross movements, by-passing, and excessive material travel distances. These issues have contributed to the production target being met only at 90,67% of the intended 100%. This study aims to redesign the facility layout to improve material flow efficiency and reduce material handling costs by applying the Systematic Layout Planning (SLP) method and the CORELAP algorithm. SLP is used to systematically analyze the proximity relationships between workstations based on material flow data and activity relationships, while the CORELAP algorithm is employed to arrange the layout based on the Total Closeness Rating (TCR) of each workstation. The analysis results show that the proposed layout using SLP improves the Line Efficiency Rate (LER) from 64,46% to 83,23%, reduces the total material movement distance from 9.034,23 m/month to 8.395,27 m/month (a decrease of 7,07%), and lowers material handling costs from IDR 7,500,000/month to IDR 6.969.551/month (a decrease of 7,07%). Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the application of SLP and CORELAP effectively addresses the layout inefficiencies. However, the selection of the optimal method must also consider physical implementation constraints in the field. Therefore, it is recommended that management ensure facility and resource readiness before fully implementing the proposed layout.
