CV. Rosen Jaya is a company operating in the wood-based furniture manufacturing
sector. The furniture products produced by this company include chairs, door
panels, and door frames. The company faces a common problem: failure to meet
production targets within the time specified by customer demand. This issue is
mainly caused by an inefficient production flow, which includes cross movement,
backtracking, and by-passing, resulting in long-distance material handling. This
problem can be addressed by improving the production floor layout using the
Simulated Annealing Method and the CORELAP Algorithm. This study aims to
design a production floor layout that minimizes distance and total material
handling moment with a Line Efficiency Rate above 75%. The company’s current
layout has a total material handling moment of 9246.34 m/month with a Line
Efficiency Rate of 48.86%, which is considered inefficient as it does not meet the
minimum threshold of 75%.The results of the study show that the Simulated
Annealing Method reduces the total material handling moment to 8138.02 m/month,
while the CORELAP Algorithm results in 8801.2 m/month. Based on the
comparison between the current layout, Simulated Annealing Method, and
CORELAP Algorithm, the best layout design is achieved using the Simulated
Annealing Method, which results in the lowest total material handling moment and
a Line Efficiency Rate of 84.4%, thus qualifying as an efficient layout. Furthermore,
the issues of cross movement, backtracking, and by-passing can be effectively
resolved.
