| dc.description.abstract | Background: DM is a chronic disease whose prevalence increases every year.
Many studies state that non-adherence to taking medication is high in type 2
diabetes mellitus patients, so qualitative research is needed to determine the factors
to find out the reasons for non-adherence to taking medication.
Objective: This study aimed to determine the factors that influence non-compliance
with taking medication in type 2 diabetes mellitus outpatient at the Amplas
community health center, Medan.
Metode: The qualitative research using a structured interview method on non-
adherent type 2 DM patients who were determined using the MARS-5
questionnaire. Data was collected through structured interviews accompanied by
field notes, recorded then made into verbatim transcripts, then analyzed using
manual methods. Data collection will be carried out in October-December 2024.
Results: From the results of the research, 30 respondents were obtained with the
largest number of respondents, 12 respondents (40%) aged >60 years, 20
womeN(66.6%), 12 respondents highschool (40%),12respondents (40%),
housewives/retired/unemployee, 19 respondents (63.3%), 14 respondents (46.6%)
who had suffered for a long time 1-5 years, and 13 respondents (43.3%) had no
income. Factors that influence non-compliance with taking medication are fear of
side effects from long-term use, forgetting, laziness, boredom, feeling healthy, and
economic factors.
Conclusion: Factors that influence non-compliance with taking medication are fear
of side effects from long-term oral antidiabetic drugs use, forgetting, laziness,
