Ergonomics is a branch of science that systematically utilizes information about human nature, abilities, and limitations. The target of this science is related to equipment and workplaces and their environment. Warehouse layout planning includes planning and organizing the location of the warehouse, equipment, material flow and people working at each work station. This study aims to design an improved layout for the placement of non-sale products in the central warehouse of PT XYZ to make it more ergonomic and efficient. The main problem faced is the product retrieval process which takes a long time due to the unstructured shelf arrangement based on brand and product movement classification, and lighting that does not meet the standards. The method used in this research is Class Based Storage, which classifies products based on the level of movement and type of brand to minimize travel distance and search activities by warehouse workers. In addition, the improvement also includes rearranging the lighting position to comply with the standard of Permenaker No. 5 Year 2018, which is a minimum of 100 lux for the goods storage area. The results show that the application of this method is able to streamline product retrieval time, improve the orderliness of the warehouse layout, and provide visual comfort for workers. Simulations using FlexSim 2022 showed a significant reduction in picking time.
This design is expected to be applied as an operational solution that reduces time and increases the comfort of workers in picking up non-sale products.
