    Abstract
    This study examines the maintenance of the Toba Batak language among Gen Z studentsat the University of North Sumatra. This study focuses on the maintenance of the Toba Batak language among Gen Z students at the University of North Sumatra in five domain groups and language attitudes among students at the University of North Sumatra. The aim is to find out how the maintenance of the Toba Batak language is among Gen Z students at the University of North Sumatra and this study also aims to determine the relationship between language attitudes among Gen Z students at the University of North Sumatra towards the Toba Batak language. Data obtained through distributing questionnaires to respondents and continued with recording techniques to collect research data results. The method of assessing this research data uses qualitative and quantitative methods. From the results of this study it can be concluded that the maintenance of the Toba Batak language among Gen Z students at the University of North Sumatra is low, only 7 (12.3%), dominantly respondents stated that they use more Indonesian, namely 32 (67,32%), the rest are Toba Batak and Indonesian as many as 16 (28,84%) and the least use of foreign languages is only 1 (1.52%) of the total 56 respondents. Although the use of the Toba Batak language is categorized as low, the attitude towards Indonesian and regional languages among Gen Z students at the University of North Sumatra is positive with a percentage of 65.4%.
