dc.description.abstractPolymer insulators have an important role in electric power systems as insulation between conductors, but their performance can decrease due to surface contamination by pollutants such as magnesium sulfate (MgSO4). This study aims to analyze the effect of voltage variations (10 kV, 15 kV, and 20 kV) and MgSO4 pollutant concentrations (0%, 0.1%, 0.5%, and 1%) on leakage current in polymer insulators made from silicone rubber. The method used includes experimental testing in a high-voltage laboratory, with the procedure of spraying MgSO4 pollutant solution onto the surface of the polymer insulator followed by drying and testing using a cascaded AC voltage. The test results show that the leakage current increases with increasing voltage and pollutant concentration. The most significant increase in leakage current occurred at a concentration of 1% with a voltage of 15 kV, which reached 6.3% compared to the condition without pollutants. These findings confirm that the presence of MgSO4 significantly affects insulation performance, increases surface conductivity, and potentially accelerates insulator degradation. Therefore, the results of this study make an important contribution to the understanding of the impact of pollution on insulators and support the development of mitigation strategies in power systems.en_US
