Pemanfaatan Sistem Otomasi Perpustakaan INLISLite pada Dinas Perpustakaan dan Arsip Kabupaten Karo

Abstract

The use of information technology encourages libraries to transform through automation systems, one of which is the INLISLite application. The Department of Library and Archives of Karo Regency has implemented this system since 2018 to support library management and services. This final project aims to examine the utilization of the INLISLite library automation system and to analyze the challenges faced in its implementation at the Department of Library and Archives of Karo Regency. This study employs a descriptive method, with data collection techniques including literature review, observation, interviews, and documentation. The results show that the Department of Library and Archives of Karo Regency has implemented the INLISLite library automation system version 3.2. The system is utilized in key aspects such as improving access to collections and information, facilitating catalog creation, enhancing circulation services, simplifying collection searches through the catalog, improving librarian work efficiency, expanding service reach, and easing collection management and monitoring. This utilization has positively impacted both the efficiency of librarian work and the quality of services provided to users. However, several challenges remain, including limited human resources in technical areas, lack of training, suboptimal use of all system modules, and infrastructure limitations such as a LAN-based server, which prevents online access to the system. Despite these limitations, the use of the INLISLite library automation system at the Department of Library and Archives of Karo Regency has provided greater ease and speed in managing library materials compared to the previous manual system. Although access is still LAN based and the library has not yet joined a union catalog, INLISLite has significant potential for further development to expand service coverage and strengthen interlibrary connectivity.
