This study aims to analyze the characteristics and application of lignin-based super-hydrophobic coatings on particleboard quality. The analysis was conducted using FTIR, XRD, and Py-GCMS spectroscopy to observe the chemical interaction between materials. FTIR results indicated the interaction between lignin and PU through a shift in absorbance peak, while XRD and Py-GCMS patterns indicated changes in structure and chemical composition due to the mixing of lignin and PU. The physical and mechanical properties of the boards were tested through the parameters of density, moisture content, water absorption, thickness swelling, modulus of elasticity (MOE), modulus of fracture (MOR) and compressive strength. Density ranged from 0,68 - 0,69 g/cm³, moisture content from 3,17 – 3,40%, and water absorption from 62,17 – 63,74%. The highest thickness swelling reached 21,52% and the lowest 20,16%. MOE values ranged from 2262,16 – 2490,53 MPa, MOR between 13,54 – 15,91 MPa and compressive strength of 0,01 MPa. Statistical analysis showed that some parameters were significantly affected by coating type, while others were not. Overall, the samples meet the JIS A 5908 (2003) standard.
